02/01/2011 Entry: "Concerts I've listened to, January 2011"

  • 1994-05-05 Prince Paris France Canal+ Studios - A very narrow sounding soundboard (from video).

  • 2010-12-07 Bruce Springsteen Asbury Park NJ Carousel House - Nice webcast soundboard but only 5 tracks. Well mixed!

  • 1977-06-27 Pink Floyd Boston MA Boston Gardens - A Lampinski recording. Pretty much nothing wrong with it.

  • 2010-01-24 Radiohead Los Angeles CA The Music Box - Benefit concert for Haiti. Matrix recording approved by band. Really clean sound.

  • 1991-08-01 Nine Inch Nails St. Paul MN Harriet Island - Known as the best sounding tape from the Lollapalooza tour. Nothing wrong with it, but not spectacular either.

  • 1980-09-06 Peter Gabriel Berlin Germany eissporthalle - Master tape... but really hissy. At least 5 songs in German. And some unreleased songs. Worth a listen.

  • 2010-11-18 OMD Berlin Tempodrome - Incomplete. Seems to be missing some high end.

  • 1978-09-19 Bruce Springsteen Passaic NJ Capitol Theater - Soundboard/broadcast. From what I've been reading lately, this is considered to be the best '78 show. Haven't listened to it in year, so I figured it's time. I must be jaded. It sounds just as hot as any other '78 broadcast, which is to say, amazing, but nothing beyond amazing. I still like Winterland better.

  • 2010-06-26 Muse Pilton UK Glastonbury Festival - Broadcast. Fantastic!

  • 1980-05-07 Genesis London UK Lyceum Ballroom - Brand new transfer from master recording from the BBC. I can't imagine anything sounding better. OK strike that. This may be one of the best sounding shows I've EVER hear, official or not. There's guitar and keyboard details in the mix that are astonishing. Absolutely brilliant!

  • 2000-xx-xx Nine Inch Nail With_Teeth rehearsals - Leaked soundboard. Nice.

  • 1995-03-22 Prince London UK The Emporium - Aftershow night 1. Pretty good recording. Fantastic performance. This was a great era!

  • 1995-03-23 Prince London UK The Emporium - Aftershow night 2. Pretty good recording.

  • 1982-07-18 Peter Gabriel Shepton Malley UK Showering Pavilion (WOMAD) - Mostly an improv show with Shankar and Stewart Copeland and others. Too bad it doesn't sound a bit better. With equally frustrating soundcheck.

  • 1984-07-19 Living Colour New York City NY CBGB's - Only Vernon really. All instrumental. I think that I used to have this on tape. It's not the morst horrible recording.

  • 1987-03-16 Duran Duran Fukuoka Japan Shimin Kaikan - A bit distant, very clear instrumentation (especially guitar). I love this era.

  • 2007-12-31 Eric Clapton Woking Surrey Woking Leisure Center - EC's somewhat annual NYE concert. Great sound! With Pete Townsend, Dhani Harrison, Ring Starr, Joe Walsh! Seriously? Wow.

  • 1994-10-14 Oasis Minneapolis MN Uptown Bar - Had an opportunity to go to the show, but didn't. Fortunately we were there in March '95 when Oasis played First Ave. I met the taper a bit after this show. This is not one of his better works, and is really distorted, but then again, The Uptown is a bit too small for a band like Oasis. Great show though.

  • 1993-08-21 Prince Madrid Spain Plaza de Toros de las Ventas - Complete show with NPG opening act recorded as well. Too bad it's not a better recording. Nice long jam at the end... but nothing special overall.

  • 1977-04-27 Led Zeppelin Richfield OH Richfield Coliseum - The infamous Destroyer bootleg. I can't believe I've never listened to this before. It is a great sounding board tape.
