05/30/2005 Entry: "Favorite videos of all time"

Beastie Boys: Sabotage
This is my absoluate favourite video. Besides the fact that the song rocks, the video is perfect. Hornblower really knows how to make a video. I should also point out that Gratitude and Pass The Mike are top notch too.

Madonna: Vogue
This is tough. Vogue was my first thought after sabotage, but then I quickly thought of Like A Virgin (except for the guy with the tiger mask on), Like A Prayer (I don't see how it's controversial, but I like the story), Cherish (Herb Ritts! Wet Madonna! Wet short blond hair!) or even the alternate Euro version where I think she's in a mermaid outfit, Open Your Heart (Same era, same look, but this time a nipple pops out.... But I kid... It's a good video), and Papa Don't Preach (Honestly, how can you turn it off... And it brings a tear to your eye... And again... She's super hot). I suppose I'm being not fair to the latter catalogue but the one in the bullfighting outfit is good (but I don't know what song that is). And, I forgot Justify My Love (just plain weird)... Although Wayne and Garth and Madonna doing Justify My Love may be better

Peter Gabriel: Sledgehammer
I don't want to put it on here, because I'm so tired of it, but there's something special about it (in the same way that Kiss The Frog isn't). Dancing chickens! Claymation! Stop Motion! Sperm! All day and night!

Run-DMC: Walk This Way
I probably wouldn't have thought about this unless I had seen something someone recently about the song, i.e. Run-DMC's version. At the time, it certainly was groundbreaking. I think that it was the first non-MJ black song on MTV. I like Joe soloing and looking through the hole of the studio. Funny! Plus, this lead us to "Going down, Mr. Tyler?"

Bruce Springsteen: I'm On Fire
I just like it when Bruce says "Hiya."

Prince: Kiss
Again, I just like Wendy sitting there with the big guitar riffing away while Prince does his James Brown thang.

New Order: True Faith/The Perfect Kiss/Touched by the Hand of God
I'm not sure if I can pick. I like True Faith because of the whole Cirque-esque people jumping and getting knocked down. I love The Perfect Kiss because it's live in the studio (for over 9 minutes!) and they just rock and look bored at the same time. And Touched By The Hand Of God is the best heavy metal video ever done by a new wave band.

Bjork: It's So Quiet
It's got the bastard son of the Sta-puft marshmellow man and the Micheline man. Why? I don't know. Ask Spike or Bjork. It's such a perfect redition of the song with Bjork's weird voice and then the video just makes no sense in context of the song.

Radiohead: Paranoid Android
Again, for me, a perfect song and I like that it's animated.

Others that I'm just trying to think of: I feel like there should be a Devo song, but I think that they are all over exposed. None of the Floyd's are really that great, unless you want to count the first part of Echoes in Pompeii. Just about everything on the Spike Jonze DVD is good. There's that
Aphex Twin videos that scares the bejeasus out of me... I think it's Come To Daddy. There must be a good Genesis/Phil Collins video, but they all kinda run together. Greg Kihn Jeopardy? Kevin and Jay point out that one.
